Description

Heat exchangers are of significant importance in many technical applications. In principle, heat exchangers enable the transfer of heat from one fluid stream to another. Alternatively, a fluid stream transfers heat to a solid of suitable capacity, from where the stored amount of heat is released to a different fluid stream in a second step. Problems in locating the heat exchanger in a technical device may often dictate the specific design resulting in a drastic restriction of the heat exchanging surfaces. Possible optimization may therefore be realised via improvement of the flow configuration. In this context the institute undertakes numerous single projects in cooperation with industrial partners, as well as on request. The objective targets were achieved in all cases.
