Comparison of Commercial CFD-Codes for an Industrial User

Commercial CFD packages become more and more comfortable in handling and performance. The intention of the Voith Turbo Company was to simulate a fluid turbo coupling with a commercial CFD Code. The wide range of CFD Software suppliers on the market required a selection process to find the appropriate software for this problem. After defining desired KO criteria, a list of possible CFD codes has been created. Further criteria have been used to reduce the list to a few suppliers. The remaining codes have been compared and weighted. The comparison also included four test cases, which have been simulated with each code to get more experience in program handling. The results of this comparison have been discussed with the Voith Turbo Company and based on this two fluid codes have been bought.
