Description

In steel production plants, the molten raw steel flows from a tundish through a tube into a casting containment, from where it is withdrawn in a continuous manner to produce long rods. Before feeding the steel into the casting containment, the steel is purged in the tundish by a gas flow which is introduced into the melt through a porous body. This purging process removes impurities from the melt. The gas emerges from the porous body in the form of bubbles. The aim of the experimental investigations of this project is to determine the bubble volume as a function of the gas flow rate through the porous body for varying wettability of the body surface in contact with the molten steel.

This research project is part of the CD-Laboratory for Continuous Solidification Processes.
