Description

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are technical systems that provide a direct connection between the human brain and a computer. Such systems are able to detect thought-modulated changes in electrophysiological brain activity and transform such changes into control signals. Brain signals can be recorded by placing electrodes on the scalp electroencephalogram, EEG), on the cortex or in the brain. A common control strategy is the imagination of movements (motor imagery, MI). MI results in measurable changes in oscillatory components in ongoing EEG over sensorimotor areas. Also evoked potentials, either from single EPs or steady-state eps, are a common control strategy nowadays.
Aim is to provide a hands free communication or control channel for severe paralyzed persons.
