alpS 1.14AB - develop a mapping system for the high-precision documentation

    Project: Research project

    Project Details

    Description

The aim of this project is to develop a mapping system for the high-precision documentation of the environment in alpine regions. The sensor system consists of standard components (laser scanner, digital camera, GPS, inertial navigational system) mounted on a platform which is installed on a helicopter. The innovation of this system is that besides the standard nadir-configuration, also slant mapping is possible. Thereby steep surfaces will be scanned orthogonally and consequently also with high geometric accuracy. The Institute of Navigation and Satellite Geodesy takes part in this project as scientific partner in the field of mission handling, quick&dirty processing and quality control. Error influences have to be analyzed and reasonable quality parameters have to be defined. Furthermore an offline-tool for the quality control has to be developed. This tool should on the one hand simulate areal surveys (with respect to a digital terrain model) to point out coverage gaps, while on the other hand quality information of the mapped data is given. Additionally it serves as a useful instrument in the case of trouble-shooting.
