Organisation profile

Profile Information

The objective of the Materials Centre Leoben (MLC) is to improve the cooperation between scientific institutions (at MU Leoben, TU Graz and TU Vienna) and industrial Austrian partners in the field of materials technology (metal physics, materials development, fabrication and processing) in order to strengthen the scientific capability to solve complex industrial problems and to establish a leading competence in this field. The five main research areas are "basic science and tools for material development", "modelling and simulation", "powder metallurgy", "surface technology" and "joining". About 40 full time MCL employees and about the same number of additional university staff are currently working on 30 research projects. Major impacts could be achieved by the development of new metallic materials, optimisation of processing technologies, exploitation of new technology fields and improvements of material property profiles. Subject areas: Beschichtungstechnik; Bruchmechanik; Computerunterstützte Simulation; Digitale Bildverarbeitung und Graphik; Elektronenmikroskopie; Festigkeitslehre; Gießereitechnologie; Maschinenbau; Metallkunde; Metallphysik; Metallurgie; Mikromechanik (auch: - der Werkstoffe); Numerische Mathematik; Schweißtechnik; Thermodynamik (auch: chemische -); Werkstoffprüfung, Material- Co-operating partners: co-operating partners Anton Paar GmbH (Austria) Böhler Edelstahl GmbH (Austria) Böhler Schweißtechnik Austria GmbH (Austria) Böhler Ybbstal Band GmbH (Austria) Bruker AXS GmbH (Austria) Erich Schmid-Institut für Materialwissenschaft der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (Austria) Georg Fischer Automobilguß GmbH (Austria) Incision Lasertec GmbH (Austria) Inncrystal Glass Gesellschaft m.b.H.
