Article 2: Purpose (1) The purpose of the Alliance shall not be for profit and shall be a pooling of European Knowledge and Innovation Centres in the field of sustainable energy systems. eseia will co-operate to advance innovation to implement sustainable energy systems in Europe as well as on a global scale in order to build the basis for a human society developing sustainably within natural limits while offering the highest possible level of quality of life. In particular eseia will be dedicated to contribute actively to the change of the European energy system to ensure that Europe will retain its competitiveness in a sustainable future world and will contribute in an active leading role as the most innovative region to the global transition towards sustainability. (2) For Europe in particular eseia envisions a strong innovation society that leads the global change by example, building on the rich natural, cultural and economic diversity of Europe and taking international leadership to contribute to a more sustainable global society. (3) Members of eseia are leading international innovation organisations from research, business and education as well as public institutions that pursue the goal of advancing sustainable energy systems. The mission of eseia will be the pooling of innovation on the European level. In particular, eseia will support strategic research and education for qualified employees at all levels as well as the dissemination of innovation. (4) The working language of the eseia shall be English because of its international membership.
