Description

The recommendations for HFMI treatment provide fatigue design curves for nominal, structural hot-spot stress as well as effective notch stress approach. This paper focusses on the applicability of the structural hot-spot stress method, whereas the recommended design curves are compared with S-N curves from eleven fatigue test data sets taken from the literature. The results reveal that the recommendation for HFMI treatment is well applicable mostly leading to conservative results. Special focus should be further on given to a proper definition of the minimum stress concentration factor K_S,min for all design values as this is not the case at the moment.
