Description

Since more than 20 years we have investigated electron transfer reactions of various types and under various conditions. According to Marcus solvent parameters have a significant influence on the observed kinetics. Especially temperature dependent measurements, e.g. to get activation parameters, suffers from these influences.
Typically all solvent parameters, such as viscosity, density, refractive index, dielectric constant, etc., changes systematically with temperature. Therefore analysis of kinetic data is difficult. Three different approaches have been started: First, changing viscosity at constant temperature keeping refractive index and dielectric constant stable.
Secondly, changing dielectric constant at constant temperature keeping viscosity and refractive index stable. Last but not least, keeping all parameters constant at variable temperatures. Work on the last one is still in progress.
