Formation of honeycomb-structured metal sulfide thin films via polystyrene microsphere templates

Activity: Talk or presentationPoster presentationScience to science

Description

Metal sulfides show increasing interest due to their range of application possibilities, such
as solar cells, photocatalysis or energy storage [1]. Nanosphere colloidal lithography, a
soft-templating technique, uses monodisperse colloidal particles such as polystyrene
microspheres (PS-MS) for the formation of periodically ordered arrays [2].
In this poster, two novel routes for the preparation of honeycomb-structured metal sulfide
thin films based on PS-MS templates are presented. In the first route, the template is
infiltrated with metal xanthates, which are subsequently converted to the metal sulfide
followed by thermal removal of the template. In the second route, the template is
infiltrated with a DMSO-based CuInS2 nanocrystal ink followed by dissolving the
microspheres in toluene [3]. The structured films are studied with several different
techniques such as profilometry, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD and SEM.
