Description
This two day intensive seminar introduces scientific writing strategies that enable participants to more efficiently and effectively prepare, write and revise their papers for English publication. A series of linguistic principles for communicating scientific research in the clearest, most coherent and concise manner are presented. The seminar is practically based and participants are encouraged to bring their own work.Topics to be covered include:
- Understanding scientific English reader expectations
- Common problems in scientific writing in English; contrasting weak and strong scientific writing
- Strategies for more efficient planning/organizing and editing
- Structuring information effectively for English scientific publication
- Understanding the function and structure of English sentence beginnings and endings to ensure clarity, cohesiveness and appropriate emphasis
- Strategies to produce smooth, readable texts that guide readers from sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph, section to section
- Strategies for conciseness
