Adaptive reinforcement of geometrically complex cement-bound shaped bodies The aim of the scientific network, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is to increase the design freedom in the use of cement materials by the use of digital processes. The complexity of the task is also reflected in the circle of participants, which includes architects and civil engineers as well as computer scientists and material scientists. In addition to many positive properties, the cement material, which is important for architecture, has significant weaknesses, especially when tensile forces are transmitted. Without the addition of a reinforcement, the potentials of the material are clearly limited. Processing in an automated process such as 3D printing does not change anything at first. Irrespective of the design, economic and ecological advantages associated with the processes, a further deterioration of the mechanical properties can occur without the integration of a reinforcement. In order to be able to exploit these potentials, however, new reinforcement methods have to be developed. Such adaptive processes, which are used to automate individual resource-saving products according to individual requirements, are the focus of interest for the scientific network.
