Subdivision Surfaces in Computer Aided Design and Engineering

Publikation: StudienabschlussarbeitHabilitation

Abstract

The contributions of this treatise lie in the field of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE).
CAD is a $10 billion dollar industry [Ped15], driven by the need of companies for innovative design which continually improves products to keep up with rapidly evolving technology. Errors in the design or delays in the time to market of new products can be costly.
This treatise brings together research which aims to make product design more efficient by enhancing the accuracy and flexibility of a CAD representation and advancing a closer integration of shape design and simulation. This was achieved by carefully analysing and improving the underlying mathematical representation of a CAD model, with a focus on the subdivision surface representation.
