Abstract

A bunch of new technologies and their interaction are ummarized under the term molecular imaging. The context of this diploma thesis is biomedical engineering. Molecular

imaging can therefore be defined as the in vivo measurement of biological processes at the cellular and molecular level with new developed and adapted technologies. The first part of this diploma thesis gives an overview of the biological side, the second part of the technological side, both with an focus on optical imaging.

There is increased interest in the reconstruction with optical technologies because of their low cost, variety in fields of application and high-throughput capabilities. Because

of the absorption and scattering of the emitted light of the probes the reconstruction technologies (like diffuse optical imaging) are a vital part of a working molecular imaging

system. Plenty of economic and research potential lies in this technology
