Abstract

Project disruptions are a worldwide phenomenon in many different economic sectors, especially in the construction industry. Multiple countries from different continents have analyzed disruptions to construction projects on a local basis. However, the increasing number of cross-country and intercontinental projects requires general analysis that indicates characteristics of the regions to help the project managers to understand as well as predict project disruptions and related risks. Therefore, based on literature analysis, this study highlights characteristics of the regions as well as the similarities and differences between them. The results of the study indicate that despite similarities in project disruptions all over the world, each region has its own characteristics that do not apply to the other regions. Project managers may use the results of the analysis to understand the characteristics of the regions, thereby managing cross-country or intercontinental construction projects without significant difficulties that affect both the design and construction phases.
