Abstract
Halts are a crucial component of public transport. They are moments when a public transport vehicle stops at a public transport stop to let passengers enter or exit. It is undesirable that the halt takes a lot of time. The time a halt takes is called dwell time. The possibilities to decrease dwell time were already researched, described in the literature and applied in the past. The public transport halts still consumes a big part of the journey time and therefore new research on the subject was desired.
The objective of this research was to find possibilities to reduce tramway dwell time for a ‘journey time reduction concept’ of Holding Graz Linien. The ‘journey time reduction concept’ covers two areas, reduction of driving time and reduction of dwell time. This master thesis focused on the reduction of dwell time for tramways at Holding Graz Linien.
