Abstract
Yellowing of textiles due to the mistakes made either in primary technological finishing or in subsequent making up and warehousing is an actual problem and a subject of many investigations. The main purpose of this research was to determine the parameters to which yellowing of optically bleached knitwear might be attributed. The stains on a knitwear that had been previously factory bleached and made up were investigated by IR and UV/VIS spectroscopy. Another purpose was to monitor the formation of yellow stains under the influence of various parameters: light, weather conditions, lubricating oil, perchlorethylene and packing materials. The change of the degree of whiteness was monitored spectrophotometrically. It was found out that the formation of yellow stains on factory bleached materials might be attributed to lubricating oil or its degradation products. During laboratory simulation of the stains formation performed 7 months (under the influence of various parameters) no characteristic yellow stains appeared, however, the degree of whiteness lowered. Lubricating oil under the effect of light had the greatest influence on the change of the degree of whiteness among all analyzed parameters.
