Projekt: Arbeitsgebiet



Within this research acitivity fixed broadband network architectures and systems are investigated. Ephasis is put on "All-IP" networks with guaranteed quality of service. Efficient access schemes are studied by software simulation. Realistic traffic models for multimedia services are taken into account. Various medium access control schemes developed for WLAN, LMDS and satellite networks are compared. An important area is the seamless integration of heterogeneous networks.

A 40 GHz point-to-multipoint communications system which supports data rates up to 50 Mbit/s has been set up in Graz. It is used to test and demonstrate new transmission and access concepts in a realistic environment.
Video over IP in broadcast quality (with QoS guarantee) and very fast wireless Internet access have been successfully tested. The system is also applied to tele-education and tele-medicine trials.
