Two-dimensional high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry for cell-membrane phospholipid bioanalysis

Phospholipids are important cell membrane constitutes for cell bioactivities. However, their separation on a single column is very challenging. Neither of the current lipidomics technologies has been proved to be a universal solution for the increasing demand on the comprehensive information of the complex phospholipids and their metabolites. In addition, it is evident that either chromatography or mass spectrometry has to go multidimensional in order to fulfil this requirment. This project will focus on developing dedicated two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D LC*LC) coupled with tandem MS for phospholipid bioanalysis.
