Projektdetails
Beschreibung
The specific target of research activities in this project area is the development of aligned
combustion and exhaust aftertreatment concepts for long-term [arge Diesel engine emission
compliance. The goal is to increase engine efficiency and the corresponding reduction of C02-
emissions. This target shouLd be attained in view of the long-term stringent future emission limits.
In this project exhaust aftertreatment is regarded as the crucial mean for emission compliance for
achieving the ambitious goals. The advanced combustion concepts for [arge Diesel engines will be
developed based on this essential boundary. Research will focus on the application of the most
modern engine technologies with the highest flexibility, as weil as on the joint action between the
combustion concept and the aftertreatment system.
A further topic for reduction of fuel consumption is the reduction of mechanical losses, e.g.
friction losses and pumping losses by over dimensioned lub oft supply. For fundamental
investigations simulation and design work with advanced material aspects are necessary.
The project‘s experimental research will be conducted on a single-cylirider research engine and
will be supported by extensive use of simulation methodotogy based on zero-, one-, and three
dimensional methods.
